Social Skills Intervention Groups (SSIG)

Social Skills Intervention Groups (SSIG) is a revised Positive Behavior Support Professional Learning Module. The three lessons in this module cover the following topics:

• Lesson one provides teams with a description, purpose, and benefits of the Social Skills Intervention Groups (SSIG) intervention. It will also provide guidance on the steps for establishing a SSIG program to meet the needs of your students along with strategies for effective implementation.
• Lesson 2 provides teams with a description of how to collect and analyze data in order to evaluate student progress in the intervention, Social Skills Intervention Groups (SSIG). It also provides guidance on how to respond to student data as well as options for modifying or facing the intervention based on the student’s response.
• Lesson 3 provides teams with a guide on how to communicate and teach staff, families, and students about SSIG. It also provides examples and recommendations on how to pilot the intervention before beginning implementing fully.

Additionally, this module stresses that social skills are essential to the success and well-being of all people. There is evidence suggesting a link between demonstrating mastery of social skills and academic achievement. Students with these skills experience less peer isolation and rejection. • Create a progress report for SSIG.
• Design a menu of modifications for SSIG.
• Determine a process for ensuring generalization of skills are monitored for fluency.
• Determine a process for fading students from SSIG.
• Develop a plan for communication with staff, families, and students regarding the SSIG intervention.
• Develop a plan for training staff, families, and students about the SSIG expectations.
• Develop a plan for piloting the SSIG intervention.
