Components of Effective Literacy: Phonological and Phonemic Awareness
This is Module 2 of a 7-part series anchored in the science of reading. This module will be the first in a series of research-based modules that will address phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics/spelling connections, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and assessment. This module will look at the differences between all the ‘ph’ words in literacy starting with the foundational skills of phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and their tie into phonics. Participants will take a deep dive into skills needed from simplest to more complex and how those skills can be the root cause of reading difficulties. Participants will recognize which skills might impact future reading success and look at how these are implemented in curriculum.
